In some rare Thursday night district basketball action, all four Skyrocket teams picked up big wins over Amarillo Highland Park! JV Lady Rockets and JV Rockets won big. Our Lady Rocket varsity girls lit up the scoreboard with 87 points, and the varsity boys closed out the night in style by topping the 100-point mark in the final game. What a night for Rocket Nation! 🚀🧨🏀Schedule Update: Our Varsity Lady Rockets are off today, but our JV Lady Rockets have picked up a game against the Lady Cats in Childress with tipoff set for 5:00 PM. The JV and Varsity Boys will be traveling to Jayton tonight, with games starting at 4:00 PM for the JV boys, followed by varsity. Additionally, due to inclement weather in the forecast, our varsity games originally scheduled for Friday, January 23rd, have been moved up to Thursday, January 22nd. 🚀 Skyrocket Spotlight! 🚀 WHS sophomore, Anna Needham, represented Wellington High School with excellence at the Miss Lubbock’s Teen competition, an official preliminary of Miss Texas’s Teen, where she earned 2nd Runner-Up! Anna competed in several challenging phases of competition including interview, talent, and evening gown, showcasing her confidence, poise, and dedication. We are so proud of the way she represented herself, her family, and Rocket Nation on such a big stage. Great job, Anna, and congratulations on an outstanding accomplishment! 🌟

WHS Senior Noah Cantu was honored tonight by the La Paisana Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) as this year’s Good Citizen! 🌟 Noah was selected through a process that began with the senior class nominating the top three candidates, followed by a vote from WHS teachers to determine the final recipient. He will now represent WHS in the DAR National Essay Contest. After the dinner, Noah had the opportunity to read his essay to those in attendance. School personnel present included his English teacher, Karoline Ashmore, Spanish teacher, Beatriz Jaimes, and Science teacher, Lana Tillman. Noah was introduced by DAR member Margret Wood and presented his award by Czrena Watts, DAR Regent and WHS teacher. Also in attendance were his grandparents, Jimmy and Odilia Cantu, and his parents, Ashly Cantu (WHS Counselor) and Jermaine Cantu (WHS Principal). Noah has already been accepted and awarded merit scholarships to all four universities he has applied to and is excitedly looking forward to what God has planned for his future. Congratulations, Noah! We are so proud of you! 🚀❤️
